Who are the Masons?

Masons in Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey congregate at Harmony Lodge #18, the friendliest Lodge in Thurston County, WA. Our Lodge includes a broad cross-section of the community and we welcome all men over the age of 18 who want to improve themselves by associating with like-minded peers. Our membership is distributed fairly evenly across age groups and by profession, although because of the proximity to Fort Lewis, many of our members are active duty military or veterans.

The Masonic Fraternity is the oldest Fraternity in the world. The Masonic Family includes Masons as well as organizations for their ladies, couples, and youth.

The Masonic Family provides more than $2 million a day to charitable activities such as hospitals, youth scholarship, and those less fortunate than we.

To inquire about Masonry, contact our Secretary.

Harmony's Shrine Burger Shifts - Wed 15th

From Harmony Secretary WB Rich Lathrope:

Wednesday July 15th – Harmony’s Lakefair Shrine Burger Wagon Day

Using the new Google Documents system that we so successfully employed with the Fireworks Booth you can sign up online for shifts on Harmony’s Day at the Shrine Burger Wagon. All adults (brothers and ladies) are welcome to sign up. The sign-up also has spaces for the remaining Burger Wagon schedule at Lakefair. Now, some days are reserved for other organizations, but if you really want to work a particular shift why not give WB Damien Kolb (this year’s Shrine organizer) at 360-561-5174 a call, and it would be my guess that he would attempt to accommodate your desires.

At the Fireworks Booth many people turned up for shifts where they saw just a few people signed in. Now, we really appreciate their efforts but for the Burger Wagon you really need to be signed in because there is not enough room in the Wagon or around it for extra people. If you have trouble using the technology and would prefer to e-mail me or call me, please feel free. The link to sign in is:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Ahqz4sunz6vNcndVdE1HQWlMT2RUeWlRSTVNRlhsdEE&hl=en

Just click on this link and type your name and phone number into the shift space you want to work. If you are a cook add a letter C after your name and if you have a Food Handler’s Card add an F.

Francis Ernest Millay's obituary:

Born – October 25, 1916, in Lewiston, ID

Died – May 30, 2009, in Spokane, WA

Francis Ernest Millay, son of the late Francis Ernest and Ruth Stark Millay, was born and raised in the Lewiston Orchards, ID. Following graduation from Washington State University, he married his college sweetheart, Grace Barstow Millay. Francis enlisted in the U. S. Army, and served in England and France in the European Theater Quartermaster Corps during World War II. He retired as a Major.

A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason for over 60 years, Francis was a member of Harmony Lodge #18 in Tumwater, WA and Past Master of Compass Lodge #24 in Yakima, WA. He was the 1998 recipient of Harmony Lodge’s Hiram Award for outstanding service to the Lodge and the Masonic Fraternity. Francis was a life member of Syringa Chapter #38 Order of the Eastern Star in Yakima.

Francis was a past president of the Selah Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club. His extensive community service also included work with Bethel 10 Job’s Daughters, Rainbow Girls, and DeMolay chapters in Yakima.

A people person, he had a successful sales career. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Francis returned to college in his 50’s, obtained a teaching certificate, and taught high school DECA students the skills necessary to obtain jobs in retail and customer service.

Following retirement in 1975, Francis and Grace moved to Anderson Island, where he served on the Anderson Island Board of Directors for several terms, was president of the Anderson Island Community Church for two terms, and served on the Tanner Electric Co-op Board. When not delivering Meals on Wheels, he and Grace traveled extensively—favorite trips included Scotland, Thailand, Greece, Ireland, and Morocco.

Francis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Grace Barstow Millay, brother Herbert Millay, sisters Margaret Henriksen and Mable Denlinger Barnhill. He is survived by his sister Elsie Mann, daughters Grace Millay Ott and Marjorie Millay, his beloved nieces and nephews, and his dear friends at A Peaceful Place Adult Family Home.

A celebration of Francis’ life will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the Alwin Chapel at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N Monroe Street, Spokane, Washington.

Do you have a current Food Handlers Permit?

Monday May 18th – 7:00 p.m. – Rainbow – Food Handler’s Permits

When a Master is installed he swears to “Cheerfully conform to the laws of the country...” A large number of us have been derelict in this by failing to secure a Food Handler’s Permit when we prepare and serve food in Lodge or at public events. Here, thanks to the diligence of the Rainbow Girls, is our opportunity to rectify this oversight. At 7:00 p.m. the Thurston County Health Department has kindly agreed to provide a class to whomever wants to turn up at the Olympia Masonic Center in Tumwater. At the end of the class you can take the test and for a fee of $10 receive your Food Handler’s Permit.
